  1. Cross Platform starts off with a basic console. Click NewΓǪ to create a new document. You will be prompted for a folder containing programs and files to be analysed. Cross Platform will then completely index the relevant items in these folders and show the resulting report in the window.

  3. You may also drop a folder directly onto the Cross Platform icon in the Finder, to examine the folder's contents in the File Report. It is preferable to analyse one or more specific folders than to examine your entire hard disk.

  5. A separate analysis is performed for programs and files, because these should be in different locations on your disks. Click the icons to switch between reports.

  9. ΓÇó Programs. This analyses programs (or 'applications') within a given disk or folder.
  10. ΓÇó Files. This analyses files (or 'documents') within a given disk or folder.
  11. ΓÇó Summary. This gives an overall analysis of the programs and files examined.

  13. Indexing Folders or Disks

To add a folder to the report, click AddΓǪ or drop the item into the Item List. Folders may also be dropped onto the programs or files icon in the window, or onto the Cross Platform icon in the Finder. To remove a folder from the list, select it then click Remove. To reindex a folder (because its contents may have changed), select it then click IndexΓǪ.

Cross Platform contains several built-in reports, which are accessible through the Report pop-up menu. Select a preset from this menu, or choose Custom OptionsΓǪ to customise the report to your needs. See the Program Report and File Report help topics for a full explanation of report contents.
  21. Type something in the Search field to search for items by file name. The report will be instantly rebuilt, containing only the relevant items.

  23. Built-in Program Reports

  25. ΓÇó Listed by Name. This lists all programs, giving general information about each.
  26. ΓÇó Summarised by Category. This lists programs and groups them based on their category.
  27. ΓÇó Unavailable Applications. This shows programs which are not known to be available or redundant for Windows. These programs are most likely to present difficulty in moving to Windows.

  29. Built-in File Reports

  31. ΓÇó Summarised by Location. This lists all files and grouped them based on their location. Detailed summary information is also shown for each group.
  32. ΓÇó Summarised by Type. This groups files based on their type, e.g. picture or text.
  33. ΓÇó Summarised by Category. This groups files based on their category.
  34. ΓÇó Untransferrable. This shows files which are not cross-platform compatible or readable by DataViz MacTranslators. These files are most likely to present difficulty in moving to Windows.
  35. ΓÇó Needing renaming. This shows files whose names cannot be used under Windows. The folder will need to be cleaned with a product such as NameCleaner, also by Sig Software. More information can be found on our web site.
  36. ΓÇó Breakdown by Modified. This groups files based on the date they were last modified. Individual files are not shown at all.
